Henderson, who was born in Morgantown, West Virginia, went to Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory School in Indianapolis, Indiana, after high school. During his senior year, they were defeated by Glenn Robinson’s Gary Roosevelt team in the state final game. In 1994, he was a member of the United States men’s basketball team that competed in the Goodwill Games in Japan.
