Austan Dean Goolsbee is an American economist and the Robert P. Gwinn Professor of Economics at the University of Chicago’s Booth School of Business. Goolsbee was the youngest member of President Barack Obama’s cabinet when he served as Chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers. From the commencement of the Obama administration, Goolsbee was a member of the three-member Council. He was a top economic policy advisor to President Obama during his 2008 presidential campaign and counselled him during his 2004 U.S. Senate campaign. He took over as Chairman of the Council in September 2010, succeeding Christina Romer, who had departed to return to teaching at the University of California, Berkeley. He announced his departure from the administration and return to the University of Chicago on June 6, 2011. He has been a strategic partner with 32 Advisors since January 2013. He is the head of their Economic Intelligence department.
