According to a statement released on Wednesday by the Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services, at least 30 persons have been linked to an outbreak of a foodborne illness after eating at Dave’s Sushi in Bozeman in April.

Between March 31 and April 17, eating at Dave’s Sushi is linked to the epidemic. Three people reportedly experienced severe results, including hospitalisation, according to a health department notice.

Donna Ventura, 64, of Belgrade, and William Lewis, 74, of Townsend both passed away after eating there. Their causes of death are unknown until the results of the autopsy and toxicology are released.

A preliminary examination determined that morel mushrooms were most likely the source of the problem and that none of the other restaurants or companies in Montana received any of the morels served at the restaurant.

According to the press statement, the mushrooms were grown in China and transported to a distributor in California before being supplied to numerous other states. As of Monday, no more illnesses connected to morels were known.

According to the announcement, the pathogen or toxin hasn’t been formally identified, and state and federal partners are still testing clinical and food samples.

In order to investigate the outbreak, the Montana DPHHS is collaborating with the Gallatin City-County Health Department, other local health departments, and federal agencies.
