At age 93, Barbara Walters passed away. She was a pioneering news broadcaster who rose to prominence in a field dominated by men and whose unwavering reporting inspired a generation of women.

Barbara Walters died quietly while surrounded by her loved ones at home. She didn’t have any regrets, a Walters representative told Rolling Stone in a statement on Friday. She paved the way for all women, not just female journalists.

Over the course of her five-decade career, Walter won 12 Emmy honors, intertwined journalism with show business in her televised interviews with famous people, and forever altered the media landscape.

As the first female evening news anchor, she joined the ABC News staff in 1976.

Her grandson Noah Shachtman took over as editor-in-chief of Rolling Stone in 2021. She married Broadway producer Lee Guber. Barbara was fierce, smart, charming, intellectual, and most importantly, fearless, according to Shachtman.
