Along with boxing greats Dick McTaggart and Jim Watt, boxing icon Ken Buchanan was inducted into Scotland’s hall of fame yesterday.
As Scotland paid homage to the former world lightweight champion, his estranged son Ray was noticeably absent.
The 36-year-old Ray shared his feelings about his turbulent connection with the person he looks up to.
He declared: “To be with him at the hall of fame would have been the proudest point of my life.
But I’ve had to stand on the sidelines for my entire existence.
“I’m thrilled that Scotland has honored him.
He has never truly been my parent. He, however, will always be my idol.
Ray of Prestonpans, East Lothian, was raised idolizing Buchanan after being abandoned by his real parents.
