Springfield teacher Bianca Colon-Hernandez was named as the fatal victim in the weekend crash.
An educator at a Springfield charter school passed away on Monday, and the school’s headmaster broke the news with sorrow.
In a statement, Bill Spirer, the founder and executive director of Springfield Prep Charter School, said, “We are stunned and saddened by the sudden loss of one of our Springfield Prep teachers, Bianca Colon-Hernandez, who sadly lost her life in a car accident over the weekend.
The school’s staff website lists Colon-Hernandez as a science teacher for the seventh grade.
Spirer wrote that she was “a dear colleague, friend, and teacher,” adding that the school provides counseling and support services for both students and staff.
“We ask for everyone’s sympathy and understanding for the family’s privacy during this trying time. Our thoughts are with her family and loved ones,” Spirer wrote.
