Christine Margaret Sinclair (born June 12, 1983) is a Canadian professional soccer player who currently plays for the Portland Thorns FC and is the captain of the Canadian national team. She was born in Vancouver, British Columbia. Sinclair is an Olympic bronze medalist who is also one of the most prolific scorers in the history of the sport. Sinclair has played for the national team for 14 years, appearing in three FIFA Women’s World Cups (in the United States in 2003, China in 2007, and Germany in 2011) and two Olympic Football Tournaments (Beijing 2008, London 2012). Eleven times, she has been named Canada Soccer Player of the Year, and six times, she has been recognised by FIFA as a candidate for World Player of the Year (2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2010 and 2012). Sinclair was awarded the Lou Marsh Trophy as Canada’s athlete of the year in 2012, as well as the Bobbie Rosenfeld Award as Canada’s female athlete of the year in the same year. She was honoured into the Walk of Fame of Canada in September of that year.
