However, at the end of the episode, Grace breaks things off by saying she doesn’t want the responsibility of making Rigsby leave the CBI. Rigsby pleads with her to talk it through, but Van Pelt simply says she knows herself and walks away, leaving him heartbroken.
Read at your own risk!] After five seasons of on-and-off romantic tension on The Mentalist, Wayne Rigsby (Owain Yeoman) and Grace Van Pelt (Amanda Righetti) finally tied the knot on Sunday’s episode, after being inspired by another couple’s wedding.
In the episode ” The Red Box “, Madeleine Hightower, the new head of the CBI, mysteriously discovers Rigsby’s relationship with Van Pelt and informs Lisbon, who feigns ignorance. In ” Aingavite Baa “, Hightower gives Van Pelt and Rigsby an ultimatum: they can be in a relationship only if one of them leaves the unit.
Van Pelt is shot multiple times in the chest while questioning a young woman, but survives with a bulletproof vest on. When Van Pelt is taken to an ambulance, Rigsby says he loves her. Van Pelt slaps Rigsby and tells him next time, he has to wear a bulletproof vest.

That led Homeland Security agent Bob Kirkland to torture him and cut his thumb off. To get back at them, Haibach kidnaps Van Pelt and, along with his sister, traps her in a cabin while Rigsby and Jane furiously attempt to shake him down for information.
Abbott tries to get them to come back, because of course you’re going to try to keep a guy who’s bulletproof, but neither Rigsby or Van Pelt are having any of it. They end with the two of them and Cho (Chigsby! Nooooo!) staying around to have a piece of cherry cobbler.
After talking with border residents and immigrants, it’s clear the only crisis at the border is how we’re putting immigrants in danger.

Haibach leads them back to his sister’s cabin before turning the tables yet again. The sister gets the drop on them and puts a shotgun shell into Rigsby’s chest. Haibach puts one more bullet in him for good measure.
Fortunately, Van Pelt is no slouch — she gets herself out the cabin basement she’s trapped in.

Who does Van Pelt work with?
While at CBI Van Pelt works with Rigsby and Cho most of the time, but she occasionally works with Jane or Lisbon. She always refers to Lisbon as “Boss” or “the boss”, even when Teresa isn’t around.
To create a distraction in order to catch the killer, Rigsby proposes while talking about hope and Grace happily says yes. The last scene of the episode is their wedding; Grace wears the dress, Lisbon and Cho witness, and Jane looks on from behind a door, crying.
Lisbon approaches Bertram, who originally says no to the request, but later changes his mind after Jane helps him win poker and authorizes the course. In episode 18, ” Behind the Red Curtain “, Grace returns and Rigsby and Lisbon welcome her back with hugs.
In episode 12, Bleeding Heart, she and Rigsby decided to go public, revealing their relationship to the whole team. Cho said that he’d known all along and that their relationship was more or less an open secret at CBI — “Half the building knows,” Cho said. Jane added, “The only person who didn’t know is glaring at you right now,” referring to Lisbon.
(This is because the actress Amanda Righetti was pregnant during filming).
She flatly declared that their relationship couldn’t be happening because it was against the rules. Lisbon initially says she will take action and report their relationship to the head of the CBI.
