Gina Torres was born on April 25, 1969 in Manhattan, New York. Her first television appearance was in an episode of Unnatural Pursuits. She has since appeared in such shows as Law & Order, NYPD Blue, One Life to Live, and many others.
In 2000, she played the role of Helen Carter in Cleopatra 2525, for which she won the ALMA Award Outstanding Lead Actress in a Syndicated Drama Series the following year.
She continued to gain fame for her notable characters on television including the role of Jasmine in Angel and Cheryl Carrera in Standoff. She now plays Jessica Pearson in the series Suits.
