In just three days, the GoFundMe for the family of a 4-month-old baby girl killed by a tree in Southwick on Friday during the cold blast achieved its $20,000 target.

Over $23,000 has now been received for the event.

On Friday, Alana Rae Bourbeau passed away in Southwick. A tree fell on a car that the 4-month-old girl and her aunt were inside, killing them both. Her name was given in the GoFundMe.

Friday morning when the car was traveling west on Route 57, a tree was probably knocked over by a strong wind, crushing the car, according to investigators.

The driver of the car was the baby’s aunt, a 23-year-old Winsted, Connecticut woman. She suffered severe injuries in the collision. She was identified as Jannel Towle on the GoFundMe.

The Hampden County District Attorney’s Office had not provided an update on her status as of Tuesday morning.

The Bourbeau and Towle families’ friend Jennifer Johnson started a GoFundMe to assist the families in the wake of the tragedy.

“I am aware that her family would never request assistance. I’m therefore requesting assistance for them,” Johnson stated in the GoFundMe site. “This is something that no grandmother or mother should ever have to go through. That this tragedy has occurred rips my heart to pieces. I’m aware that this won’t get better.

Donors sent letters of sympathy and meaningful thoughts to the family of the newborn girl who died to Bourbeau and Towle.

The newborn was referred to in Alana Rae Bourbeau’s obituary as a “lovely and happy” spirit who in such a brief period of time provided happiness to everyone around her.
