Whitney Thore announced her mother’s death on Instagram on Wednesday. Barbara “Babs” Thore was perhaps best known as Whitney’s mom on the TLC show My Big Fat Fabulous Life. Age-wise, she was in the 76th year.
According to Whitney, her mother passed away at 10:32 p.m. on Wednesday, “just as the credits rolled on her favorite movie,” which also happens to be the same time Whitney was born nearly 40 years ago.
Whitney disclosed her mother’s diagnosis of cerebral amyloid angiopathy, a degenerative, incurable disease associated with an increased risk of brain hemorrhage, stroke, and dementia. First experiencing a stroke in 2017, her most recent one was on November 13.
Nick Holly, the show’s longtime manager and one of the show’s creators, has passed away at the age of 51.
‘My mother is our family’s greatest gift,’ Whitney wrote. Nothing or no one else could ever have more of our love, respect, or esteem. You’re probably reading this because you’ve experienced her enchantment yourself, and you know all about her beautiful smile, infectious laugh, funny comments, and ability to make anybody she meets feel welcome and loved. What you have seen and felt through a TV screen is a tiny percentage that, if multiplied by a million, wouldn’t come close to “real life,” but you can’t possibly comprehend the depth of my mother’s love.
As Thore’s condition deteriorated, it was discussed on the TLC show. Thore’s hospitalization and eventual release from care following one of her strokes were the focus of the most recent episode of the show’s 10th season.
In October, the tenth season of My Big Fabulous Life, which consisted of 12 episodes, came to a close. To yet, there’s been no indication on whether or not Season 10 will be renewed for a twelfth.
