When it comes to rockclimbing, Kim Carrigan (born in 1958) was Australia’s most prominent representative throughout the late 1970s and early 1980s. Carrigan established several hundred new routes on crags all across the nation, with a concentration on Mount Arapiles, Victoria, where he was stationed for a period of many years. He continually pushed the boundaries of Australian climbing, starting with a free climb of an ancient aid route called Procul Harum, which became the first Australian climb to be rated 26 using the Ewbank system. He went on to climb the first grade 27 (Denim), the second grade 28 (Yesterday), the third grade 29 (India), and the fourth grade 30 (Indian) (Masada). Almost all of these climbs may be found on Mount Arapiles. Later, he relocated to Switzerland, where he trained as a triathlon.

During his time in the Swiss alps, he collaborated with the legendary Swiss climber Martin Scheel on several challenging first ascents, such as the Titlis’ Truth of Human Desire. Mountain biking is Kim’s current favourite sport. He currently resides in Brisbane, where he has had great success in business; he is a co-owner and operator of the Wild Breads / Sol Breads bakery, which supplies hundreds of retail shops across the city.
