Jackie Robinson is still having an impact on baseball and society fifty years after his passing. On Saturday, the sport will honor this influence.

In addition to celebrating Robinson’s historic debut with the Dodgers 76 years ago, Jackie Robinson Day in 2023 will also honor the Jackie Robinson Foundation (JRF), which was established by Jackie’s widow, Rachel, in October 1972 to honor his life and his mission. The JRF will be celebrating its 50th anniversary.

At the age of 53, Jackie Robinson passed away from a heart attack at his Connecticut home on October 24, 1972.

Tens of thousands of people lined the street on the day of his funeral to pay their respects to the late baseball player.

Robinson received the Congressional Gold Medal and the Presidential Medal of Freedom in honor of his on- and off-field accomplishments after his passing in 1972.
