Lesley Cordero’s passing was confirmed by Kloots via Instagram.

She said, in part, “My heart is devastated,” adding that she and Lesley had been “extremely close” during the course of her late husband’s sickness. “We were soldiers who daily engaged in combat for the sake of the man we cherished. We swapped shifts at the hospital, and at night we consoled one other’s cries.

She was an inspiration, a strong woman who gave wise counsel. As a fellow widow who understood how to navigate this new existence, she was a big assistance to me.

The close relationship between Kloots’ late husband and her mother-in-law was one of the things she described in her writing.

This piece Lesley painted is called “My Cup Runneth Over” hangs in my living room (I like to imagine a giant heart) and it is how I have felt about my friendship with her. I keep feeling so unfinished…we had plans…so many conversations still to have…adventures to talk about…a Unicamp visit in the works…

I imagine so many others feel the same…
