Ben Lipitz was an experienced stage actor who had been performing on Broadway for almost 40 years.
He had played Pumbaa in Disney’s The Lion King for nearly 19 years on Broadway and on tour.
He had also worked with renowned director Sidney Lumet twice. Lipitz considered the Walnut as his artistic home, where he began working at the age of 18.
He had also contributed to numerous regional theater productions, including musicals such as Just So, Red Hot and Blue, and The Producers, and plays like Art, God of Carnage, Laughter on the 23rd Floor, and Death of a Salesman, which were produced in 2021.
Lipitz’s philanthropic work
As a concert producer, Lipitz had organized and produced over one hundred charity concert events for organizations such as The Actors Fund, Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, and The Jewish Federation of Southern New Jersey.
He was also a board member and a master of ceremonies at numerous galas.
Cause of Lipitz’s death
The cause of Lipitz’s death has not been officially announced, but some of his social media posts suggested that it might have been due to cancer complications.
