The Cleveland Browns have lost their longtime radio analyst Jim Mueller, who was known as the “Voice of the Cleveland Browns” from 1975 until his untimely death in 1995 at the age of 79.
On August 17, 2022, Mueller passed away. During the preseason game between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Cleveland Browns, his successor as Browns voice announcer, Jim Donovan, broke the news of his passing.
Mueller started working as a sports anchor for the West Palm Beach, Florida, station WPTV-TV in 1968. After three years, WHAS-TV in Louisville, Kentucky recruited him to host the 6 and 11 o’clock newscasts on sports. In addition to his work at WHAS, he was the radio voice of the Louisville Cardinals football team.
Kentucky’s highest award, the rank of Colonel, was bestowed upon him in March 1972 by Governor Julian Carroll.
In fact, Mueller was such a car racing fanatic that he signed up to drive for the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA). He was connected to Roger Penske’s team. He was executive director of the Sports Media Associates of Cleveland and Ohio (SMACO) from 1982 until his retirement in 1996.
In 2005, Mueller was honored by being inducted into Ohio’s Radio and Television Broadcasters Hall of Fame.
