Obituary: Betty Schulte, a Loving Mother and Grandmother

Betty  Schulte, a cherished mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, peacefully passed away on Friday, October 27, 2023, at Aviston Countryside Manor in Aviston, IL. Born on December 1, 1940, in Albers, IL, Betty lived a life filled with love, laughter, and selflessness.

Betty took immense pride in her role as the mother of Linda Irvin, David Schulte (Kim), Jamie Schulte, Jayson Schulte (Terri), and Jennifer Schulte. She was a devoted grandmother to Mickayla Skibinski (Brandon), Chris Smith, Corey Irvin, Eric Irvin, Adam Irvin, and Bryson Schulte. Betty was also blessed with 12 great-grandchildren whom she adored. Her love extended to her siblings, including Linda Singleton, Dave Wellen (Bonnie), Roger Wellen (Celie), and Kenny Wellen (Brenda), as well as her in-laws, Mary Ritchey, Carol Fischer, and Richard Schulte (Pat). She also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews who will dearly miss her.

Betty married Hubert A. Schulte on June 18, 1971, and he preceded her in death on January 4, 2021. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Alphonse and Josephine Wellen, her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Arnold and Virginia Schulte, and her in-laws, Kathleen Schulte, Michael Schulte, Eileen Henkel, Phyllis Ritchey, and Philip Schulte.

From an early age, Betty displayed a strong work ethic, beginning her career at the Wee Walker Shoe Factory. Later in life, she provided cleaning services to homes throughout the community.

Betty had a passion for camping and enjoyed spending time outdoors, reveling in the tranquility of nature and the warmth of campfire gatherings with her loved ones. Her grandchildren were the light of her life, and she treasured every moment spent with them. Betty was the embodiment of a selfless mother who loved her children and family unconditionally.

A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, November 2, 2023, at St. Anthony’s Church in Beckemeyer, with Fr. Chuck Tuttle officiating. Interment will follow at St. Anthony’s Cemetery in Beckemeyer. Visitation will be held at St. Anthony’s Church on Thursday morning from 9:00 – 11:00 A.M. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in memory of Mrs. Schulte are suggested to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society and can be received through Zieren Funeral Home, 1111 Clinton Street, Carlyle, IL 62231.
