In October 2023, Ravit Assayag, who had just celebrated the Jewish festival of Sukkot in New York, made a remarkable and courageous decision that took her from holiday celebrations to a dangerous battlefield. Her choice ultimately saved her entire unit from a group of Hamas terrorists.

Every year, Ravit and her father shared a cherished tradition of celebrating Sukkot with their community in America. However, this year, despite her father’s wish to extend their stay, Ravit decided to return home early because she felt a strong calling to be in her homeland. Little did she know that her homeland would need her in an unexpected way.

Just 72 hours after sharing holiday photos from New York, Ravit found herself facing Hamas terrorists. They were engaged in a fierce battle in an olive garden, struggling against the militants for hours. In an incredible show of bravery, Ravit managed to neutralize three terrorists, and her entire unit succeeded in taking down a total of eight.

Thinking they had eliminated the threat, Ravit continued her mission, meticulously checking the area for any hidden terrorists. Tragically, she encountered a few of them concealed in a shed, and they fired a shot that hit her in the mouth.
