A Flint firefighter who died in the line of duty had his identity made public by officials.

According to a statement from the city of Flint, Ricky Hill Jr. of the Flint Fire Department passed away after possibly having a heart attack while reacting to a fire over the weekend at a mobile home park.

According to authorities, a residential unit at the Elms Mobile Home Park off South Dort Highway caught fire around 2:33 p.m. on February 25. Hill allegedly lost consciousness right away and needed to be taken to Hurley Medical Center, where he was later declared dead.

Mayor Sheldon Neeley said, “We respect Mr. Ricky Hill Jr.’s dedication to a life of service and extend our sincere sympathies to his family. We are constantly informed of the risks that first responders take on while performing their duties, so it is crucial that we recognize their contributions.

Hill spent more than 15 years working for the fire service. The 49-year-wife old’s and two children are left behind.

According to a city statement, “The City of Flint extends our sincere condolences to the family of Ricky Hill Jr. and all those who adored him.”

The flag at Flint City Hall will fly at half-staff in Hill’s honor. Until after his funeral ceremony, the flag will stay at half-staff.
