In order to determine what caused the death of a Stephanie Contreras who was discovered dead on the shoulder of Interstate 275 in Tampa on Christmas morning, troopers are asking for the public’s assistance.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, an FDOT Road Ranger discovered the woman just after 7 a.m. on Sunday on the outside shoulder of the northbound lanes of I-275, just west of Dale Mabry Highway. She was later identified as 29-year-old Stephanie Contreras of Dover.

Contreras was unconscious, had a serious head wound, and had road rash all over her body.

She was taken to a neighboring hospital by paramedics, but two days later, she passed away from her wounds.

According to FHP, Contreras leaves four children behind, including an 8-year-old daughter, twin daughters who are 2 years old, and a son who is 1 year old.

How the mother of four got to the side of the road is still a mystery.
