Rodney Jermaine Coles, a veteran Richmond firefighter, perishes in a tragic auto accident.

The death of experienced fireman Rodney Jermaine Coles, who sadly perished following a car incident in Chesterfield County, has rocked the Richmond Fire Department community as tragedy.

State troopers responded to a single-vehicle mishap on I-95 South, close to the exit for Woods Edge Road, at roughly 3:45 p.m. on Thursday, August 3.

Law enforcement officials claim that a 2003 Subaru car was driving along I-95 when it went off the road and struck some shrubs at the side of the road.

The car’s 49-year-old Petersburg resident driver, Rodney Jermaine Coles, was taken urgently to a hospital nearby. Coles was sadly declared dead at the hospital despite being buckled in his seatbelt.

For an incredible period of almost 15 years, Rodney Jermaine Coles had served as a committed fireman for the Richmond Fire Department. Since he began on August 4, 2008, he has made a good impact on the community, demonstrating his persistent dedication to service.

In an emotional note to the department, Chief Melvin D. Carter conveyed his sorrow and admiration for Coles. Chief Carter implored the neighborhood to honor Coles’ legacy and to think of him and his family at this trying time.
