Daniel Penny, a 24-year-old surfing fanatic from West Islip, Long Island, has been identified as the former Marine who was seen choking a homeless Michael Jackson lookalike in the subway killing that rocked New York City and the country last week, according to Insider.

Jordan Neely, who was allegedly acting strangely on the F train on Monday about 2:15 p.m., can be seen on video with Penny’s arm around his head and neck.

On Twitter, Penny’s name was mentioned on Thursday. His last name was briefly mentioned in a photo caption on The Daily Mail’s website on Thursday, and on Friday morning, the website published an item mentioning Penny.

Insider received confirmation from a former senior law enforcement officer that Penny was the person shown on film placing Neely in a chokehold.

The independent journalist Juan Alberto Vázquez captured some of the interaction on tape. In the footage, Neely is being held still on the subway car floor by Penny and two other men. On Wednesday, the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in New York City declared Neely’s death to be a homicide by compression to the neck.
