The victim of a deadly Somerset County accident has been identified by authorities as a 23-year-old track standout and recent high school graduate.

Mario Heslop Bio & Cause of death

On Monday, June 19, about 5:30 p.m. in Franklin Township, Mario Heslop, of New Brunswick, was operating a 2013 Infiniti Q50S that was traveling east in the left lane of Hamilton Street when he crossed the center line, according to Somerset County Prosecutor John P. McDonald.

At the intersection of Hillcrest Avenue, Heslop struck a westbound car traveling in the left lane, according to McDonald. Investigators claim that a third vehicle, which was also heading westbound in the left lane of Hamilton Street, impacted the second vehicle, which was being driven by a Hillsborough resident, from behind.

Heslop received treatment on the spot, was transported quickly to a nearby trauma facility, and was later declared dead.

The driver of the third vehicle declined medical help at the site, and the Hillsborough resident was transferred to a nearby hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening wounds.
