On January 24, 2023, Harold Merlin Van Zee, 95, of Tea, South Dakota, who had previously lived in rural New Holland and Platte, joined God’s kingdom.
A Celebration of Life will be organized after a private funeral is conducted.
He was born on a homestead close to New Holland, South Dakota, on January 17, 1928, to Fred and Wyna (Keuning) Van Zee. He was a student at New Holland Christian.
On November 25, 1946, Harold and Jeanette Hansum were legally wed. Together, they bought a property close to Joubert, South Dakota, where they settled down and farmed for the following 46 years. Roger and Wanda, their two children, were a blessing from the Almighty.
Harold was a devoted and loving husband, father, and grandpa in addition to being a consistent participant in the church and the community.
Harold cherished laboring on the farm, bowling, and hunting. He relished his weekly coffee dates with friends and his time with his grandkids in retirement. Tractor rides and following him around his farm outside of New Holland will always be fond memories for his grandkids.
His 76-year-old wife Jeanette, his children Roger Van Zee and Wanda Hohn of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, grandkids Derek Hohn, Kristina (Sid) Vowles, Megan (Robert) Rolfson, and Vanessa Hohn, as well as a large number of other family members and friends, will all miss him dearly.
Harold was predeceased by his stepfather Herman Hansum, parents Fred H. and Wyna Van Zee, brother Marvin Van Zee, sister Juna Mae Van Zee, and several in-laws.
